Bernieszu I would say it's okay, at least by Ewan J. Innes:

"First of all complete nonsense and shows on Mac and Mc, that the two are Scottish or Irish. Exactly the same words, is the MC is actually an acronym for Mac (and sometimes MEIĆ) and is usually written M'C (sometimes even M ') with the apostrophe indicating the name was short (there are many other characters, the abbreviation for the show, two points in c). "

There is no difference. McKenzie is the American way of spelling ... Ellis Iceland is normal. Mackenzie is the way to Scotland.

I am a family MacQuarrie, but when it comes, the U.S., but then became McQuarrie Crary. Fun.

I play the bagpipes .... While proud to have spent Scots going crazy. lol

No difference at all - only that it is an abbreviation of the other. Some families use the full version and some use the abbreviated version, and some continue to shorten it to M or M '
The only difference in social class or religion, would have been no difference between the various families with the name so I can see.

If Shakespeare is († 1616) known for writing his name in 19 different ways, it is unreasonable to think that does not mean this small difference in the spelling of Mackenzie / Martinez, a little later than 200 years.

Also today, the British Post Office no patience with these variants, and to ignore their phone books. When Mc, Mac or M ', and if capital K and K is small, all mixed together and sorted according to first the next. Most MacAnythings in Scotland are very happy, just like its name from other spells.

The difference is nothing to do with Ellis, Iceland or the Americans do, is something deeper. The prefix "Mac" (son) Scots Gaeilge, the MC-prefix, Irish is Irish.
